The word "luxury" gets applied to almost everything now — luxury car washes, luxury dog grooming, luxury storage units. Most of the time it means more expensive. In garment care, it means something specific: the method of care is determined by the garment, not by the machine's settings.
A standard laundry service puts everything in a drum at a predetermined temperature with a predetermined detergent. This works well enough for cotton t-shirts. It is actively harmful to cashmere, silk, structured wool, linen, and any natural fibre with a complex weave.
Every garment is examined before cleaning: fabric type identified, weave assessed, stains pre-treated specifically, construction details noted. None of this happens in a home machine.
The cleaning method is selected from a full range — wet cleaning, dry cleaning, steam, hand washing — matched to the specific piece. Not a menu of four machine settings.
Pressing, blocking, shaping, and folding by trained hands with specialist equipment. A cashmere sweater blocked correctly looks different from the same sweater dried in a machine.

Some garments genuinely suffer under standard home washing. Not because home machines are low-quality, but because they cannot make the distinctions that fabric care requires.
Cashmere & merino wool
Hot water felts the fibres; agitation distorts the structure. Professional wet cleaning with cool water and zero mechanical stress is the only safe method.
Silk
Loses lustre and weakens structurally under heat. Requires cool water, hand handling, and specific detergent chemistry that home machines cannot replicate.
Linen
Can be washed but benefits from professional finishing that home ironing cannot replicate — particularly the open, natural hand feel of properly finished linen.
Structured wool (suits, blazers, coats)
The canvas inside the garment that gives it shape is destroyed by water immersion. Dry cleaning or steam treatment only — never the machine.
Technical fabrics
Standard detergents strip the DWR coating that makes waterproof fabrics work. Specialist cleaning preserves both the performance and the integrity of the material.
The experience of luxury garment care should extend to how it arrives and how it leaves. A scheduled weekly pickup removes the friction of getting clothes to a cleaner. Delivery back to your door — inspected, folded, covered — means the service disappears into your routine rather than adding to it.
